PT RSM opts for an advanced sand washing technology for pit sand deposits

PT. Rekadaya Sarana Mukti (RSM), a partnership firm in Indonesia is involved in excavation and screening at its site, producing and retailing aggregates ranging from 10 - 100 mm and sand less than 10 mm.

Mr. Ridwan Suria, one of RSM’s partners was considering exploring smarter M-Sand options for its quarry business. With a pit sand deposit located at Desa Bunihayu - a small town near Subang, West Java in Indonesia, Mr. Ridwan was looking to produce quality washed sand from fines (less than 5 mm) generated from the excavation activities. Since it was a pit sand deposit, most of the sand was lumpy and muddy having a high percentage of silt (<75 microns) particles, and therefore a challenging raw material to process.

However, the lack of good quality M-Sand production in and around the Subang area led the owners of RSM, Mr. Zainur Akbari and Mr. Ridwan Suria, to invest in a sand-washing plant. As a part of his search, Mr. Ridwan scouted several local washing plants in Indonesia but was left unimpressed owing to their dated processes, low quality of output, high water consumption, and the large land space required for the deposition of sludge which involved environmentally harmful practices.

The owners eventually shifted their gaze to an advanced, state-of-the-art sand-washing system that could combat all the problems of traditional and inefficient sand-washing plants. Unsurprisingly, they approached CDE Asia in early 2016 for the ideal solution. RSM sent their samples of sand to the CDE Asia factory in Kolkata, India for preliminary testing. The results conformed to ASTM C33 standards – a perfect match for the client’s requirements.  The RSM officials visited a few CDE Asia sites in India and Sri Lanka and were left thoroughly impressed with CDE Asia’s world-class sand solutions.

• Pin-point efficiency: The plant can produce consistently graded M-sand with a high silt removal capacity of 20%. It has an impressive feed capacity of 120 TPH, 95% water recycling capacity, and up to 30% energy conservation capabilities.
• High returns: The Combo Alpha-i can produce 3 products - aggregate, coarse sand, and fine sand. However, the client mixed the coarse and fines to manufacture one type of concrete sand only. Today, RSM sells 3 products from the output of Combo Alpha-i, i.e., Washed Concrete Sand and aggregates, and sludge, thus making maximum utilization of the plant with no leftovers on the site.

Impressed with the superior features that the plant offered, RSM commissioned the Combo Alpha-i– plant in early 2018.  To date, the plant has run for more than 15,000 hours and has processed over 1.5 million MT of pit sand to 2 washed products - washed aggregate (+5 mm), and washed concrete sand (0 - 5 mm).

The quality and continuous production and availability of washed M-Sand produced from Combo Alpha-i has attracted a lot of potential clients from nearby Tier-I cities like Bandung, Jakarta, Karawang, etc. The superior output has helped the client achieve 2.5 times higher selling prices than before.
