Sinter washing

Most blast furnaces currently operate with 60-70% sinter in the burden. These sinters are mostly made of iron-ore fines and other materials like coal dust, limestone, etc. The Iron-ore fines should have a particle size distribution between 0.15 mm (150 micron) to 10 mm for efficient sinter preparation.

The Iron-ore sinter fines available contain a high percentage of particles below 0.15 mm and these have to be removed in order to facilitate efficient kiln operation. This is done very efficiently with our Iron-Ore washing systems which not only provides particles within the correct size distribution range but also improves the quality of material through rejection of magnitude including Alumina, Silica that are found in the minus 0.15 mm (150 micron) particles.

The range of improvement varies depending on Feed Quality. However Fe grade improvements by 2-4 percentage points and alumina reduction by up to 2 percentage points have been achieved through our washing process. Improvements of this magnitude lead to the production of iron ore fines suitable for use in steel production and result in significant efficiency gains for steel producers.
